(dunholme improvement group) “the old school community project” hover cursor over the pictures above to stop the image for the latest news please go to our news page! were undergoing evaluations for major funding before we were asked to stop helping mr ritchie and his trustees, for the results please click on the following diagnostics report on the 1st of october 2014, (dunholme improvement group) – the community volunteer group, who had been originally approached by the trustees to step in and help with revitalising the old school at dunholme were asked to stop any further activity on behalf of the old school. the volunteers at are naturally very upset as we a re well underway with consultations, plans and fund-raising. this is a community owned building and the community have been consulted on what they want, but yet the trustees have made the decision that they do not want the development proposed by and supported by the wider community , to go any further. you can leave your views on our comments page, or write to the editor of the dunholme news (the editor however is john ritchie trustee for the dunholme old school) to have your views heard! we are a committee of dunholme residents from all walks of life who have come together to drive an initiative to create a new social venture within our village. diary dates we have completed the first stage of our ‘consultation period’ with the residents and visitors to dunholme. now is your chance to have your say about what you would like to see happen with the old school. 9th october – epic centre “power to change” ’s simon barrett presented our journey to like-minded community run businesses, funders and councillors. asked to be a ‘pilot project’ for ‘locality’ to follow our progress from idea to completion. made new contacts and heard presentations from the national lottery, can, plunkett and unlimited. 10th of september – presented the conclusions of the public consultation period and survey results to the community community lincs presented their findings from the survey and other public consultation events. also presented the latest (initial) plans for the old school. we are still collecting views and ideas and have a comments page on this website so please have your say on the design and the proposals or the current situation regarding our ‘stumbling block’…sign up for the e-shot newsletter for up-to-date information. background the vision from the trustees of the old school and , is to help create a bar in the existing school building, adding a restaurant/bistro extension to the front and creating a multi use performance area to the back of the property, together with storage, kitchen and improved toilet facilities. there may also be scope for a meeting room / flexible space if enough room. the first stage is to carry out a community survey from which we will be able to establish the types of users the scheme would attract, this was carried out in march 2014. various community groups who use the building at present, together with others who will be identified by public consultation exercises. having lost the last pub in the village, there is no longer an impromptu meeting place for the village residents. we want to create a venue for local people and visitors to come for a meal or snack, prepared with fresh local produce. this would be supplemented by providing speciality wines / beers and barista style coffee bar. the building is presently used to provide affordable lunches to elderly village residents, which we would like to retain and enhance in the redeveloped scheme. other groups too who already use the facility will feature in our plans. we would also like to see the building having a family friendly atmosphere, with external seating and a play area. multi use / performance area the area at the back we call ‘performance area’ would possibly have removable raked seating. people may come for a performance/cinema show and use the bar / bistro, or to a private function. possible user groups: pensioner groups / toddlers / teenagers fitness groups / dancing / meetings / lectures / conferences / camera club / theatre groups / band practice / pottery /or dunholme’s got talent evenings etc.. the building could be used for wedding receptions / wakes, due to its close proximity to the church. we will be asking in the survey if there is anyone in the village able to help in a professional or advisory role, to join the steering committee or help with products and services for this ambitious project. please do contact us in the meantime if there is something you can help us with at any stage of the project. for information on the background of the group have a look at www.graphicalincoln/nelson.co.uk © food photography reproduced from originals by william gemmell of the village limits woodhall spa. © 2014 graphica | comments (rss) back to top
